Start a preparedness group

Whoever applies becomes the group administrator. That means adding households, sending out links and keeping the details current. It takes an evening to get going, then about an hour every six months.

How large should the area be?

Small enough that everyone can walk to each other in a few minutes. A cul-de-sac, a block, a village, a stairwell or a housing association.

Five to twenty-five households works best. Beyond that you lose the overview, and two groups that know of each other work better.

What is expected of me as administrator?

Adding the neighbours households and sending out their personal links.
Approving neighbours who apply to join on their own.
Filling in the assembly point and how you reach each other without a mobile network.
Reminding people to print the household card a couple of times a year.

You need no technical knowledge. Everything happens in the browser, and there is a handbook.

Why is the application approved manually?

A preparedness group holds details of who lives where and what they keep at home. That is not something anyone should be able to create anonymously.

We read the application, check that it seems reasonable, and sometimes ask a question before approving.
